Growing up in the small town of Smithfield, Virginia,  Megan Gotliffe baked any chance she could. She moved to Raleigh, North Carolina, for college in 2005, and a few years later decided that baking was her true calling. She attended the Baking and Pastry Arts Program at Wake Technical Community College, where she won multiple awards for her beautiful wedding cake designs. During her time at Wake Tech, she held an internship at Prestonwood Country Club in Cary. While working under Chef Richter at Prestonwood, she was allowed to express her creativity and fine tune her decorating skills. From Prestonwood, she has held positions such as Head Baker at Bittersweet, Pastry Chef at Mandolin, and Pastry Chef de Partie at The Umstead Hotel & Spa. With  the support of her friends, co-workers, and family members, she decided to branch out on her own and  I Do Cakes was born!
